Starting August 22, 2008, when a customer makes an advance reservation for the "Global Passport Handset Rental Service" at an au Shop or by phone, the rental and other charges are generally combined with each month’s au mobile phone usage charges. Advance reservation made via the Web (PC or mobile phone) and same-day rental made at an airport are billed to the customer’s credit card.
Voice service is now available in the Bahamas and EZweb/E-mail service are now available in Mexico as of July 23, 2008.
EZweb/E-mail and PC Site Viewer service are now available in Qatar and Croatia as of July 16, 2008.
Voice service in Vietnam was being provided through the CDMA network via cooperation with two local carriers (Hanoi Telecom and S-Telecom). Hanoi Telecom has discontinued its CDMA network service as of July 1, 2008, but customers may continue to use the service via the S-Telecom network.

Global Passport Handset Rental Service
Even if the au phone you use in Japan is not compatible with the Global Passport overseas service areas, you can still use the Global Passport service. Just take the "au IC-Card" from your au handset and place it inside a rental handset that is "Global Passport" compatible.
